Belarusian State Technological University (BSTU) hosted a meeting between Ihar Voitau, BSTU Rector, Alexander Kulik, Forestry Minister, and Mikhail Kasko, Chairman of Bellesbumprom Concern. The meeting agenda included issues related to efficient forest exploitation and timber processing. ?
The meeting was attended by experts from BSTU and the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus.
Ihar Voitau informed that BSTU scholars do extensive research into wood waste processing, uses of wood-based composite materials for housing construction, pulp production technology, tall oil processing, etc.
Alexander Kulik highlighted today’s challenges that are to be addressed by the national forest sector, e.g., the emergent surplus of coniferous and hardwood timber; processing of aspen and black alder wood and their further applications; the growing demand for wooden houses; the need to ensure smooth operation of the Unified State Automated Information System for Forest Products (USAIS). The Forestry Minister accentuated that young professionals graduating with forestry-related degree must be able to face up these and many other challenges as well as to be prepared for field work. ??????
Alexander Dernovich, Deputy Director of the Republican Centre for Applied Research in Petrochemical Technologies and Production gave a detailed presentation about wood chips processing at hydrolysis plants. Mikhail Kasko noted the innovative character of the project idea and stressed out the importance of practical application of research results. ????
The meeting attendees resolved that further expert consultations would be needed to develop an inter-institutional action plan for implementation of joint projects.
